ST. CHARLES – Police continue to investigate the cause of a Sunday car fire, but believe it was engine-related.

No one was hurt in the blaze, which began about 2 p.m., said Battalion Chief Kevin Christensen.

Firefighters were called to the 100 block of Walnut Drive, near the Fox Run apartments, when they found a 2001 Ford Expedition with the engine compartment and part of the interior on fire, he said.

Heat damage also was found on the doors of cars on either side of the Expedition, he said.

Christensen said the fire likely was caused by an electric or fuel problem, and totaled the car.

Assistant Fire Chief Joe Schelstreet said damages were about $10,000.

Firefighters have yet to determine the cause of the fire, but believe it started in the engine, he said. Foul play is not suspected.
