GENEVA – There were few candidate additions as the one-week filing period for the February Primary Election came to a close Monday.
The Feb. 2, 2010, primary has some key races, including the Republican race for Sheriff – the winner would take on incumbent Sheriff Pat Perez, who is running again as a Democrat. Perez announced his intentions to seek re-election more than a week ago.
Lt. Donald Kramer, who already works within the Kane County Sheriff's Office, is up against L. Robert Russell, who now works in the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
Geneva resident Mike Donahue will challenge Kane County Board incumbent Rob McConnaughay for the District 11 seat.
Donahue recently announced his candidacy. He said he's served in local government for the past 20 years, including six years as planning director for the City of Geneva
Donahue said some of his key issues in the campaign will be the redevelopment of the old county jail site on Fabyan Parkway, reuse of the former Settler's Hill landfill property and future uses for the Sixth Street School property.
Incumbent Barbara Wojnicki of Campton Township has two Republican challengers for her seat for the County Board's 15th District. They are Susan Secondi – an opponent to the incorporation of Campton Hills and Albert J. Lenkaitis Jr., a Campton Hills trustee. Kay Catlin, development director for the Fox River Chapter of the American Red Cross, is running on the Democratic ticket for the seat.
Other contested County Board races include, District three in Aurora, District five in the Aurora/Sugar Grove area, District seven in Aurora, District nine in North Aurora, districts 17 and 19 in Elgin, District 21 in the Dundee area, District 23 in the northern part of the county, and District 25 in the far western portion of Kane County.
