Letters: Come and speak your mind

As a supporter of the Geneva TAXFACTS, an organization committed to partnering with tax-supported organizations to ensure fiscally sound management and oversight, I am pleased to see that the Geneva school administration and the school board have agreed to hold a community forum at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Geneva Middle School South to discuss spending policy, payroll, credit card usage, budget deficits, etc.
TAXFACTS made the recommendation to hold open meetings to the board months ago to encourage community participation in decisions that critically impact the quality of our education as well as our real estate taxes.
An example of community participation was the board meeting on Sept.14 at Williamsburg School where more than 200 citizens came to understand the 2009/10 school budget, to voice their support of the education of our students, and to plead for fiscally conservative actions. Budget reductions within businesses and government agencies are a common consequence due to the current economic picture and the anxieties our citizens are experiencing with ever-higher real estate tax taxes.
My husband and I have been encouraged by the many people who have voiced their support of what we are trying to accomplish and have urged us to “keep up the good work."
Mark your calendars for Nov. 14 as your attendance will send the message to the administration and the school board that you support quality education and expect common sense fiscal management of our tax dollars.
