ST. CHARLES – A St. Charles man was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison for dealing cocaine near a church.
Marcus Burton, 23, who lived in the 6N900 block of Roosevelt Street, was arrested this summer for the June incident in South Elgin.
He pleaded guilty at a court appearance Thursday before Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher and received the six-year sentence.
Other drug charges were dropped as part of the plea bargain.
At the time of Burton's arrest, he was on probation for a felony criminal damage to property conviction, court records show.
Because of Burton's 99 days he served in jail since his drug arrest, and sentencing laws, he likely will be eligible for parole in less than three years.
