BATAVIA – Dreyer Medical Clinic can't see any new patients because it has run out of room at its current 9,000-square-foot building on Fabyan Parkway.

To create additional space and provide more services, Dreyer on Thursday broke ground for a new one-story 22,000-square-foot building west of Randall Road, 1.8 miles from its current facility.

"We see this as a milestone in the growth and success of Batavia," said Batavia Assistant City Administrator Randy Recklaus.

The new building will be located at the corner of Branson Drive and Fabyan Parkway. The current facility has been open since 1985 and will close when the new building is expected to open in August 2010.

At its current facility, Dreyer offers walk-in care, pediatrics, internal medicine and occupational health. There is also a rehabilitation area.

The new building will offer additional services, said Donna Cooper, president of Aurora-based Dreyer Medical Clinic.

"We will offer more specialty services as well as physical therapy at the location," Cooper said.

Dreyer officials liked the fact the new location is near several schools, including Geneva Middle School.

Cooper said breaking ground for the facility took on additional significance because she is a Batavia resident.

Services to be offered include dermatology, internal medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, occupational health, pediatrics and physical/occupational therapy. In addition, walk-in care will be available to anyone seeking acute medical care.

There is room for expansion at the new building for a 10,000-square-foot addition, said Matthew Campbell, chief executive officer of Chicago-based MedProperties, which is developing the medical campus.

The rugged terrain of the site provided an extra challenge to developing the land, Campbell said.

"It drops 20 feet from corner to corner," Campbell said. "We have already removed 10,000 cubic yards of dirt."

Two other buildings would be built alongside Dreyer's facility.

"We hope to have medical facilities that would complement the use of the clinic," Campbell said.
