Kane County Health Department to resume H1N1 vaccinations
The Kane County Health Department received a shipment of the H1N1 vaccine Thursday, clearing the way for the department to begin scheduling appointments again.
The department suspended appointment scheduling last week when the supply was depleted.
“We still are in the midst of a nationwide shortage, but the vaccine deliveries are beginning to trickle in to the providers and agencies that ordered it," health department Executive Director Paul Kuehnert said. "As we move forward, the vaccine will be available to everybody who needs it."
The latest shipment will allow the department to fill appointments through the end of December.
To schedule an appointment, residents may call the department's call center 630-723-5414, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A second Kane County resident died Monday from complications due to the H1N1 flu virus, the Kane County Health Department also reported Friday.
In addition to having the H1N1 virus, the 41-year-old Elgin woman had underlying medical conditions. A 42-year-old Kane County man who had underlying medical conditions died from complications of the H1N1 virus in May.
“Unfortunately, the H1N1 flu has a history of affecting those with underlying conditions," Kuehnert said. While we work to schedule more appointments to administer the vaccine to our residents, we are reminding everyone to take steps to prevent the flu, such as covering your cough, washing your hands frequently and staying home if you are sick.”
