Motorists on Route 47 this weekend will need to mind their manners – and the traffic laws – or they might end up with a court date.
The Illinois State Police have announced that they and several other local police agencies will be conducting an enforcement blitz on Route 47 through Kane and McHenry counties on Sunday.
Police said the focus of the blitz will be to reduce crashes and fatalities by cracking down on what police called the "Fatal Five" traffic offenses, including driving while intoxicated, speeding, improper lane usage, following too close and seat belt or child restraint violations.
State Police said the blitz is intended to be highly visible to gain public awareness and will follow a similar blitz being conducted Saturday on Route 23 in DeKalb County.
Local agencies involved in Sunday's enforcement operation include the Elburn and Sugar Grove police departments and the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
