ST. CHARLES – A jury convicted a St. Charles man Tuesday of selling drugs two years ago near a Batavia church.

Kyle D. Abraham, 23, of the 600 block of State Street, St. Charles, was convicted of one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, a Class X felony, and one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony.

The jury deliberated for about 45 minutes before it reached a verdict in the 1 1/2-day trial.

Prosecutors said Abraham on Sept. 13, 2007, sold three grams of cocaine to an undercover police officer at the intersection of Logan and Park streets in Batavia  – about 600 feet from a church.

Associate Judge Allen Anderson is expected to sentence Abraham Jan. 8, 2010. Abraham faces between six and 30 years in prison. Due to the Class X felony conviction, state law dictates Abraham cannot be placed on probation and must serve prison time.

Abraham remains in jail where he's been since his arrest, held on $500,000 bail.
