Letters to the Editor

I have been reading so many letters to the editor against Peter Roskam that I have to respond with some thoughts. Since the tax bill that Congressman Roskam voted for passed, our economy has exploded.

Unemployment is at historic lows, the GDP is at a very healthy 4 percent-plus rate, and employers are having difficulty filling all of the jobs that are available. This is all good news!

Some will say that the nation’s debt load will increase because businesses and individuals are paying less, but I believe that over time our national debt can decrease because business is expanding and more people are working, i.e. more taxpayers and more businesses.

According to the Heritage Foundation, the average taxpayer in Peter Roskam’s district will save $2,054 in 2018 with an average income tax decrease of 9.5 percent. In addition, the increase in take-home pay of the average taxpayer in our district would be $35,837 over the next 10 years if the tax savings are made permanent.

I would encourage anyone who looks at these figures and thinks this is all good news to not only vote for Peter Roskam in November, but let him know that you want these tax cuts to become permanent.
