Gridders on the mend

Batavia running back/linebacker Pete Koczmara had an MRI on his knee Monday and expects to receive results Friday. The senior has been out since suffering a swollen right MCL late in the second quarter of the Bulldogs' Week 2 win at West Chicago.

Koczmara has been attending practices this week and reports his range of motion has improved steadily since the injury.

"I'm putting pressure on [the knee] and walking better than I had been and am hoping to get good news," he said.

In other injury happenings, St. Charles North junior wide receiver Josh Mikes will miss the rest of the season after a recent MRI revealed a hairline fracture in a disc in his back. North Stars coach Mark Gould said the prognosis was good that Mikes would be healthy for basketball season.

North running back Ben Hodges is probable for the team's Week 4 meeting with Neuqua Valley after twisting his knee against East Aurora.
