East-North football game postponed

St. Charles East officials announced Tuesday afternoon that all athletic and other extracurricular activities scheduled for Wednesday through Friday will be postponed until further notice due to " an unusually high amount of absences due to illness."

Today's activities, including the boys soccer regional doubleheader, will proceed as scheduled, but the postponement affects Friday's marquee football game against St. Charles North, among other events. East athletic director Jerry Krieg said Tuesday afternoon that there has been no makeup date set for the football game, and he did not expect a final decision on that until Wednesday at the earliest.

"We're certainly going to work with D303 administration and North," Krieg said. "We certainly want to  make the high school experience as full as possible so we’re going to do what's best for the kids and especially for the health of our kids."

North interim AD Wayne DeMaar said playing the game Saturday is the best scenario. IHSA playoff pairings are scheduled to be released on Saturday night, and both teams have already qualified for the postseason.

The Saints' tennis doubles team of Erin Bowman and Lexi Baltes will be allowed to participate in the IHSA State Tournament beginning on Thursday, Krieg said. That event is taking place at sites throughout the northwest suburbs. All other games and practices, though, are off through Friday.
