Two St. Charles men injured in boat crash
Two St. Charles men were seriously injured early Saturday in a boating accident in northwestern Illinois.
Sgt. Laura Petreikis of the Illinois Conservation Police said Joseph Chiaro, 43, was operating a recreational boat when it struck a man-made dam about 12:55 a.m. at Apple Canyon Lake.
The passenger, 50-year-old David Godziela, was ejected from the vessel, she said.
Both men were flown to Rockford for treatment, Petreikis said. One was being treated at Rockford Memorial Hospital, and the other was receiving treatment at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center.
A representative at OSF St. Anthony said Thursday that Godziela is in fair condition. Rockford Health System did not return a message seeking Chiaro’s condition.
The crash is under investigation, Petreikis said.
