DeKALB – It took less than a minute for the St. Charles North girls soccer team to set the tone and take control of Wednesday’s IHSA Class 3A DeKalb Regional semifinal against DeKalb.

STREAMWOOD – After crushing Larkin in Tuesday’s first IHSA Class 3A Bartlett Regional semifinal, the St. Charles East girls soccer team stuck around for only a little more than 10 minutes of Geneva’s semifinal against Bartlett.

DeKALB – The Burlington Central softball team scored two runs in the seventh inning Monday to knock off DeKalb, 5-3, for a nonconference win.

ELGIN – New coach, same result for the Batavia boys tennis team after Saturday's conclusion of the two-day Upstate Eight Conference River Division tournament.

GENEVA – The first three batters the St. Charles North softball team sent to the plate Friday afternoon all scored, and that would be all the offense the North Stars needed in a 5-1 victory against Upstate Eight Conference River Division rival Geneva.

BURLINGTON – The Kaneland girls track and field team won Friday’s Class 2A Burlington Central Sectional while qualifying five individual entries and two relays for next week’s state meet in Charleston.

St. Charles East brings home sectional title, sends four relays to state

ROSELLE – One St. Charles North runner called this season’s track team one of the best he’s ever been a part of. And though a fourth-place finish at the Upstate Eight Conference Boys Track and Field Meet on Thursday wasn’t the top prize, the North Stars were still happy with the results.

SYCAMORE – Lexi Roach hit a two-run double and Allyson O’Herron bashed a two-run home run on Thursday as the Kaneland softball team rallied past Sycamore for a 6-4 win.

MAPLE PARK – The Kaneland girls soccer team shut out Sycamore for the second straight day, but this time the Knights scored a goal, defeating the Spartans, 1-0, in Wednesday’s regular season finale.

ST. CHARLES – Moments after hollering and mugging for photos under a banner that read “2013 conference champs,” St. Charles North boys volleyball players admitted their feat was not yet totally their own.

GENEVA – Batavia senior pitcher Luke Horton said he was “ecstatic” with Tuesday’s big win against Geneva.

GENEVA – Giving the opposition lots of extra outs is usually not a successful softball strategy, and it didn’t work too well for Geneva Tuesday in an Upstate

ST. CHARLES – A quick start Tuesday propelled the host St. Charles North boys water polo team to a 9-2 victory against Hinsdale South in a Neuqua Valley Sectional opening-round game.

Burlington Central has been one of the area’s best programs in recent years, winning 20 or more games each of the past four seasons.

BATAVIA – Batavia baseball coach Matt Holm and Geneva counterpart Matt Hahn emerged with the same conclusion after addressing their teams on Saturday afternoon.

WHEATON – Aurora Central Catholic pitcher Matt Miller continued what has been a dominant season Wednesday, striking out 12 batters in 62/3 innings of work as the Chargers defeated St. Francis, 8-4.

GENEVA – The Geneva boys volleyball team was firing on all cylinders Tuesday, allowing the Vikings to run over a St. Charles East squad missing a key spark plug.

SYCAMORE – Matt Limbrunner homered and was the tough-luck loser on the pitching mound Tuesday as the Kaneland baseball team fell to Sycamore, 2-1, in Northern Illinois Big 12 East play.

First-year Batavia coach Lupe Castellanos knew what he was getting into when he took over the Bulldogs’ program after the 2012 season.
