ST. CHARLES NORTH – Nick Devor gently wrestled fellow St. Charles East sprinter Jake Mazanke to the ground on Friday night, then sprang to his feet to shout some more.

GENEVA – Geneva junior Kyle McNeil addressed a conundrum familiar to many track and field athletes last week.

ROCHELLE – Before Thursday’s Class 2A Rochelle Sectional meet, Kaneland boys track and field coach Eric Baron projected his team to score 91 points.

Batavia senior Brandon Clabough has been able to recite the school pole vault record since he was a freshman. He has at least one more chance to eclipse Jay Markuson's 1977 standard of 14 feet, 6 inches at the 3A St. Charles North Sectional next week, but also is hopeful to earn a state meet berth over Memorial Day weekend. Also a hurdler, Clabough has been a track and field standout through much of his athletic career at Batavia, which also included a role as the football team's placekicker. He committed to Western Illinois to vault, and still is unsure about hurdles. DeKALB — During the 1,600-meter relay at Friday’s Northern Illinois Big 12 Boys Track and Field Meet, one Kaneland athlete yelled “Let’s go Rochelle, get them!”

GENEVA – St. Charles East’s Jake Mazanke evened the scorecard in his potential five-round bout with Geneva’s Peter Archibald on Thursday.

Why Archibald was selected: Archibald helped Geneva tie Kaneland for the team title at Friday’s Kane County boys track and field meet by winning the 800 meters and competing in the victorious 4x800 relay.

AURORA – Geneva boys track and field coach Gale Gross glanced at his lither counterpart from Kaneland and left no doubt.

Marmion senior Pete Stefanski sprouted five inches three summers ago, which ultimately led to his growth as a top high jumper.

MAPLE PARK – Paige Kuefler’s three-run home run punctuated a four-run fifth inning that lifted the Kaneland softball team past Ottawa, 6-4, on Wednesday.

YORKVILLE – The Kaneland baseball team rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to defeat Northern Illinois Big 12 East rival Yorkville, 3-2.

MAPLE PARK – Although strong field event showings by Geneva and host Kaneland kept the schools in the two top spots during the Peterson Prep Invitational on Saturday, it was the last race of the day that decided the winner.
