ST. CHARLES – St. Charles North senior pitcher Jake Johansmeier won a dramatic battle against pesky Batavia shortstop Billy Zwick, who fouled off several consecutive pitches before striking out with the bases loaded Wednesday to end a 1-0 Upstate Eight Conference River baseball win for the North Stars.

The St. Charles North boys lacrosse team is on a roll after suffering through a slow start to the season.

GENEVA – The Geneva baseball team was unable to complete a series sweep against Elgin on Thursday as the Maroons upset the Vikings in Upstate Eight Conference River play, 5-4.

YORKVILLE – The Kaneland baseball team rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning Tuesday to defeat Northern Illinois Big 12 East rival Yorkville, 3-2.

BATAVIA – St. Charles North boys tennis coach Sean Masoncup isn’t shy about identifying the North Stars’ identity.

Phil Wantoch arrived at Batavia in the mid-1990s with a growing volleyball pedigree he only hoped to further as a Bulldog.

AURORA – Kyle Gannon and Chris Dieter both won a pair of individual events while competing with victorious relay teams on Thursday, helping the St. Charles North boys swimming and diving team top Metea Valley, 101-83.

Caroline Niski knew there was a good chance she was going to change positions when she committed to the University of Maryland volleyball team, but the former St. Charles East outside hitter didn’t realize how difficult that was going to be.

Allison Manley’s future at Philadelphia University amounts to something of a blind date.

OSWEGO – The Rosary girls basketball team defeated Larkin, 55-51, in Oswego Tournament play on Wednesday behind a game-high 17 points for Taylor Gibson.
