ST. CHARLES – Sometimes, Holly Deitchman said, a bag of Skittles just doesn’t cut it as a way to recognize someone’s achievements.
So when the Batavia Chamber of Commerce president and CEO learned about the Kane County Chronicle’s Best Under 40 honor, she nominated Stacie Barnett for the public recognition.
“This, to me, is so awesome,” Deitchman said as the inaugural class of Best Under 40 recipients gathered Tuesday at the Royal Fox Country Club in St. Charles for a reception.
Best Under 40 honored professionals in Kane County younger than 40 who have made significant contributions to their profession, company and community.
The recipients were Stacie Barnett, an assistant buyer at Aldi Corp.; Katlyn Eggar, an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance; Traci Eggleston, executive director of Elderday Center; Kimberly Elam, owner of Kimmer’s Ice Cream; Josh Feagans, an attorney; Darius Grigaliunas, a businessman; Joshua Hall, president/construction manager for John Hall Custom Homes; Dr. Emily Loveland, a chiropractic physician; Dr. Colleen Noe, a chiropractic physician; Meagan Schoenrock, community manager for 25N Coworking; Roman Seckel, an attorney; and Alex Tyler, owner of Goldfish Swim School.
“You should all be very proud of your accomplishments,” Kane County Chronicle General Manager Jim Ringness said.
He noted someone recently thanked the newspaper for bringing such an event to the community because showcasing the young professionals “makes us all feel better” about the future.
Martha Sanchez of State Street Jewelers, the presenting sponsor, said the 12 honorees have “found something we all strive for: passion and love for what we do.”
Grigaliunas, 37, said he was happy to have an event celebrating achievements of those in his generation and noted many of the Best Under 40 recipients are local.
“We’re a reflection of you,” he told the crowd, which included recipients’ family, friends and co-workers. “We can’t do this without you.”
As they accepted their award, the nominees thanked those who have supported them, such as spouses and parents. Loveland had a special message for her niece.
“It’s not about being the best,” she said. “It’s about doing your best.”
