ELBURN – A fire Monday night caused $35,000 in damage to a house in Elburn, but there were no injuries, said Craig Hanson, the assistant chief of the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District.
The fire was reported at about 8:30 p.m. Monday at 300 W. Nebraska St., Elburn. Hanson said a passerby reported the fire, and a police officer arrived at the scene. The officer was able to assist the two occupants safely exit the home, Hanson said.
"They were unaware of the fire," Hanson said, adding that the fire was in an attic space and presented itself out of the west side of the home.
Hanson said the fire was brought under control within an hour and the firefighters were at the scene until about midnight. He said the three residents were being assisted by the Red Cross. He said the fire is not considered to be suspicious.
Other fire departments assisted at the scene, including those from Sugar Grove, Kaneville, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles and Maple Park.
