Brueske combined for a no-hitter versus Elgin, and also started the win over St. Charles North.Alex Buchanan, Kaneland, junior, pitcher: It's difficult to find a more sparkling season than a 9-0 record with a 0.63 ERA. Buchanan, uncommitted for the time being, had 53 strikeouts and 19 walks in 44 2/3 innings.John DelloStritto, St. Charles East, senior, shortstop: The sparkplug at the top of the Saints' lineup, DelloStritto also was a can't-miss presence in the infield defensively. The senior knocked in 13 runs and had five doubles for a .387 average.Luke Gomes, Kaneland, senior, outfield: Named first team All-State by the Illinois Coaches Association, Gomes hit .446 with an OPS of 1.264 and had four home runs with 27 RBI, scoring 37 times.Steve Hamer, St. Charles North, senior, pitcher/outfielder: A Miami (Ohio) commit, Hamer showcased as one of the area's top pitchers. He posted a 5-1 record, 1.1 ERA and struck out 57 in 40 innings pitched. At the plate, Hamer slugged .564 and popped 34 RBI. [Sandy Bressner - firstname.lastname@example.org]Ian Hanson, Geneva, senior, pitcher/infielder: Wearing his late brother's uniform number, Hanson was one of Geneva's top performers. Named Geneva's Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year, Hanson hit .479 and had a team-high 24 RBI. On the mound, Hanson went 3-3 with 23 strikeouts.Ryan Knowlton, Burlington Central, senior, outfielder: A Wisconsin-Whitewater commit, Knowlton – alongside Colton Wallace – helped pace Central to a Class 3A sectional final appearance. Knowlton hit a whopping .421 with 36 RBI and seven home runs. [Sandy Bressner - email@example.com]Erik Larson, St. Charles North, senior, first base/pitcher: An excellent two-way player on the mound and at first base, Larson was another consistent contributor within a long list. Larson went 5-1 and struck out 19. Offensively, Larson smacked 16 RBI and hit to a .371 average. [Sean King for Shaw Media]Brandon McPherson, Marmion, senior, pitcher: The Kane County prep Player of the Year, McPherson dazzled his way to a 5-1 record while striking out 104 and allowed 14 earned runs in 63.2 innings pitched. [Sandy Bressner - firstname.lastname@example.org]Nick Skurka, St. Charles North, senior, pitcher: Skurka threw a no-hitter in the early part of the season, and pitched extremely well for the North Stars going 5-1 with a 1.38 ERA and struck out 57 in 40 innings pitched. [Sandy Bressner - email@example.com]Chase Stanke, Marmion, senior, catcher: A vocal leader behind the plate, the Minnesota commit did plenty of damage at the plate hitting .368, four home runs and 23 RBI. Stanke also helped lead Marmion to the first Class 4A regional title in program history.
