ST. CHARLES – More than 60 vendors of some other-worldly skills and products will be featured at the Crystal Ranch Holistic & Energy Expo from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at Pheasant Run Resort, St. Charles Ballroom, 4051 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Hosted by Carol Rushton of Crystal Ranch Reiki & Hypnosis, also in St. Charles, the event is free and offers a variety of products and services – from life coaches to psychics, crystals to New Age gifts, hand-crafted crystal wands to fairy-themed gifts.
Before she became a hypnotist and reiki practitioner, Rushton said she worked at several different jobs.
“I worked as a receptionist. As a waiter. In retail,” Rushton said. “I worked for my dad, but I never found anything I liked. When I found this, it was like a light switch.”
Rushton said she had a reiki session done in 2012, “and it was like I just suddenly turned on. I shifted my paradigm.”
"I already kind of felt like I was looking for a career and I knew I was capable of doing the thing she was doing," Rushton said. "I was watching the perfect dream job."
Rushton learned reiki – a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation and healing done by laying on hands – and hypnosis, as well as how to use healing crystals and do oracle card reading.
"Everybody in my life told me, 'This is what you are supposed to do,'" Rushton said.
The idea of the expo started with Rushton hiring a woman to host other vendors in her home studio in a small expo in 2013, she said.
“I learned from her how to do it,” Rushton said. “It just kept getting bigger and bigger and more people came so, I thought I should maybe transfer to a bigger location.”
“I’m expecting at least 1,000 people,” Rushton said. “What most people are interested in is readings and energy work. We also have holistic alternative medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, massage therapy, chiropractic, apothecaries, oils and artists.”
A person unfamiliar with the vendors and concepts such as healing crystals or oracle readings could still enjoy attending the expo, Rushton said.
“A person getting a reading for the first time might discover a new perception of themselves that can improve the quality of their life,” Rushton said. “It’s all about feelings. It’s about listening to our feelings. Intuition is about feelings. And when we deny our intuition, we deny our feelings.”
Rushton said no one is a medical doctor or psychotherapist, so people should not think attending the event means they have treated an illness or condition.
