ST. CHARLES – As part of the state's bicentennial celebration, the St. Charles Public Library at 1 p.m. Dec. 7 will host the event "We're Gonna Party Like It's 1818!"

Those who attend the event will travel back in time and celebrate 19th century style with historian and performer Ellie Carlson. Participants will sample food, have their silhouette made, dance and hear the music that may have played as Illinois celebrated its birthday 200 years ago.

Carlson has been presenting costumed interpretations and historical lectures in the Chicago area for more than 10 years. Trained as a museum curator, she earned her Masters of Historical Administration and Museum Studies from the University of Kansas.

Registration for the event is required. Sign up at the library's reference desk, by calling 630-584-0076, ext. 1 or online at www.scpld.org. The St. Charles Public Library is located at One South Sixth Avenue in St. Charles.
