Looking for things to do while it's cold outside? The library has events for all ages and stages that include storytimes for preschoolers, robotics and moviemaking for teens, programs for adults on LinkedIn and email marketing and drop-in activities for kids and adults.
Visit gpld.org/events and discover what’s going on this month, such as: preschool fun with technology and engineering and a variety of drop-in storytimes. We have K-1 Fun as well as LEGO WeDo Robotics for grades 2-5.
For teens in grades 6-12 we offer LEGO WeDo Robotics and a movie-making program. Our teen book club for grades 9-12 will meet, and high schoolers can also take practice SAT or ACT tests.
Our 20s and 30s have board game night and a melted crayon art program. Adults can enjoy a foreign film followed by a discussion and also join us to create fabric scrap key chains. We’re partnering with Hart Chiropractic to offer a terrific program for parents and youth on Text Neck and Poor Posture. There is so much more you can enjoy and experience at your library – check it out!
New library update: Exterior walls will begin to go up on the new Geneva Library at 227 S. 7th St. now that construction crews have completed the steelwork. The goal is an opening date in fall 2019. Visit gpldnewbuilding.org for a comprehensive overview of plans for the new library and regular updates on progress. Please contact us anytime at Board@gpld.org.
Library closing: The library will be closed on Jan. 25 for Staff In-Service. This is a day dedicated to staff training so we can continue to learn and improve.
The Librarian Recommends: Library Assistant Ali Lanthrum recommends “The City of Brass,” by S. A. Chakraborty: “Be careful what you wish for... A Cairo thief accidentally launches herself on a life-or-death adventure through magical lands. To survive, she must navigate foreign politics, question who she is, and decide what is worth living for.” (Daevabad Trilogy #1)
