St. Charles resident Alan Shontz, 58, was at the Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles Township when he answered questions for the Kane County Chronicle's Brenda Schory.
Schory: Where did you grow up?
Schory: Do you have any pets?
Shontz: Four cats, Sam, Ella, Blaze and Lila
Schory: Who would play you in the movie of your life?
Shontz: George Clooney
Schory: First job?
Shontz: Lawn mowing. I mowed eight to 10 yards a week.
Schory: Why are you here?
Shontz: Glass blowing has been a hobby for 20 years. We’re partnering to build the glass studio, which will be open by June 1. I’m going to do my own work and teach. It’s just the glow of the molten glass – it’s one of the most mesmerizing things to watch. It’s fun.
Schory: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Shontz: I don’t know if I had any big aspirations to be something when I was a kid. I worked in the financial industry for years, and that wasn’t something I thought of as a kid.
Schory: Favorite charity?
Schory: Favorite ice cream flavor?
Schory: Favorite local restaurant?
Schory: What is an interesting fact about yourself?
Shontz: I was a jazz drummer through college.
