GENEVA – The Geneva District 304 school board approved the dismissal of 11 support staff and one math teacher at its April 8 meeting.

The 11 classroom assistants at Western Avenue, Heartland, Harrison, Mill Creek and Fabyan elementary schools will not be needed for the 2019-20 school year, officials said.

Their last day will be June 7.

The reason for their dismissal is that the district is not sure whether there will be enough students to justify re-hiring them for the new year, officials said.

All the support staff are part-time employees, working from 15 hours to 28.45 hours per week, documents show.

The board also took action not to re-employ a full time fifth-grade math teacher at Heartland Elementary School for the next school year. Among the reasons given was so administrators would have greater flexibility to respond to to changes in student enrollment.
