Askew worked one of five Kaneland fifth-inning walks, and the Knights scored six runs in the inning to rally from a four-run deficit for a 9-6 win in the first game of the Northern Illinois Big 12 East series.
Askew walked on a full count with the bases loaded, the fourth straight Knights' walk with two out. Bryce Stair followed by pulling a two-run single through the hole for a 6-6 game. After a Jonathan Alstott walk Nick Ortegel bounced a two-run single to right field to bring home two more runs, for an 8-6 lead.
"Our coaches told us we should be more patient. We kind of listened to them and we smartened up," said Askew, who later singled in a run in the sixth. "If it wasn't our pitch, we knew not to be overaggressive. We knew he was falling behind in the count a lot."
