NORTH AURORA – A North Aurora man remains in the Kane County Jail after fleeing from Aurora police officers and discarding a pistol.
Andre Norman, of the 100 block of Lincolnway, North Aurora, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon on April 16 after he ran from officers of the Aurora Police Department's Special Operations Group, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.
Norman, on parole for a previously convicted felony, had been holding a pistol and discarded it during the foot chase, the release stated. At around 5:10 p.m. April 16, investigators from Aurora Police Department's Special Operations Group observed Norman outside his apartment complex in the 100 block of Lincolnway, according to the release.
The investigators had previous contacts with Norman and knew he was wanted on an outstanding warrant, according to the release. As they approached Norman, he fled on foot, removing a black Diamondback 9mm handgun from his waistband and discarding it as he ran.
Norman was apprehended moments later and taken into custody without further incident, the released stated. He was charged with resisting/obstructing a police officer, a misdemeanor along with possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card and possession of a firearm by a felon, both felonies.
Norman remains in the Kane County Jail awaiting bond. A status hearing is set for April 24.
