Erickson strikes out 12 in 10-0, sixth-inning win
MAPLE PARK – Emilee Erickson wasn't struggling, per se, early – after all she had given up just one hit and struck out five through the first two innings.
The Kaneland junior allowed the first two runners she faced reach in the third, but then she set down the final nine batters she faced in the game, finishing with 12 strikeouts in the Knights' 10-0, six-inning win over Plano in the championship of the Class 3A Kaneland Regional on Friday.
Coach Mike Kuefler said after the second, he made Erickson go to the bullpen for a couple extra pitches.
"She zeroed it in," Kuefler said. "We had her go behind the dugout, and I told her 10 pitches, kiddo. And she zeroed in those pitches she did. She got it done. She did a good job for us."
