PLATO TOWNSHIP – A 20-year-old man from Burlington died in a rollover crash early Thursday while trying to avoid hitting a large bird or duck that was in the roadway, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff.
The driver was identified as Aaron Beason of the 400 block of French Road, Burlington.
Deputies were called to a crash with injuries at 12:35 a.m. June 6 on Plank Road between Switzer and Russell Roads in Plato Township, according to the release.
Beason was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala east on Plank Road when he swerved to avoid the bird in the road, lost control of the vehicle and caused it to roll over several times, the release stated.
Beason, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the Impala. He was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin where he was pronounced dead, the release stated.
The passenger, Semaj Jackson, 20, who was Beason’s roommate, was wearing a seatbelt. Jackson was also taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital with minor injuries, the release stated.
The crash is still under investigation by the sheriff’s detectives and members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, the release stated.
