BATAVIA – In honor of its impending 10th anniversary Sept. 13, Water Street Studios in Batavia will partner 10 local artists with 10 nonprofits to create outdoor, public art murals that illustrate the programs and services the organizations offer the community. The application deadline for Illinois artists is July 15.
The murals will be on display in the alley leading to the entrance of Water Street Studios, a news release stated. The goal of the Activate the Alley pARTnership Project is to create an outdoor resource gallery where people can learn more about the causes and services, all while improving the streetscape and public safety on Water Street.
“My vision in creating this project was to connect nonprofits so that our missions can support one another,” Water Street Studios Executive Director Danielle Hollis stated in the release. “We don’t have to do it all on our own. We should be working together to make bigger impacts in our community. It’s all about understanding the strengths and weaknesses of our organization and going out to find partners that can strengthen our weaknesses and benefit from our strengths.”
Water Street Studios invites artists to use their skills, passion and efforts to support causes that directly impact the community, and get paid for their work. Interested artists can apply online at www.waterstreetstudios.org.
“This project is special because these art pieces will reflect one of our community’s strongest features – our commitment to service and taking care of one another,” Batavia 5th Ward Alderman Abby Beck stated in the release.
Artists will be selected by jury and then presented to nonprofit partners for pairing. Selected artists receive a $1,000 stipend from Water Street Studios for their work. Final works are to be completed on a 3-by-4-foot vertical canvas, according to the nonprofit’s specifications. A digital vinyl replica will be presented at a reveal party.
Artists can submit their application at www.waterstreetstudios.org/activate-the-alley-partnership-project. Nonprofit organizations interested in becoming mural pARTners can contact Danielle Hollis directly to learn about availability. Visit www.waterstreetstudios.org for details.
