Holmes, 22, entered Thursday’s home game with seven hits in his last 11 at-bats, including driving in seven RBIs. Holmes doubled and singled twice while driving in four runs in Wednesday’s 11-4 win over the Beloit Snappers.
After struggling early in the season, Holmes is locked in at the plate — as evidenced by his final at-bat on Wednesday.
“I went down 0-2, brought it back up to 3-2 count and ended up hitting a slider down the right-field line for a double,” Holmes said. “I stayed on that pretty good and have to keep building.
“I kind of changed my approach, hitting ball the other way in batting practice because I get a lot of off-speed and just trying to square them up. Surprisingly, some of my hits have been the other way.”
