Geneva seeks input about city's future at forum

Residents can participate in forum via survey

GENEVA – Residents, merchants and stakeholders are invited to help shape the future of Geneva by attending the city’s Strategic Plan Advisory Committee’s upcoming community forum, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800 South St., officials announced in a news release.

The forum will begin with a brief presentation on the city’s strategic plan followed by an opportunity for attendees to meet with committee members to learn more about specific focus areas within the plan.

As a reminder, South Street near the Public Works Department continues to remain closed due to a sinkhole damaging the roadway’s culvert crossing.

Westbound South Street traffic is being detoured to head north on Burgess Road, west on Kaneville Road and south on Southampton Drive. People heading east on South Street can still access the Public Works Department’s driveway without being detoured.

Those who cannot attend the forum can still make their voices heard through an online survey that can be found on the City’s website at www.geneva.il.us. The survey will take about 10 minutes to complete, and the deadline is Oct. 9.

The forum and survey are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to improve services, gather important feedback and educate the community about the plan.

Public input will help the committee identify priorities and make recommendations to the City Council regarding the implementation of the strategic plan, the release stated.

The 2025 strategic plan was created with assistance from a broad cross section of community stakeholders and focuses on economic vitality, strong governance, environmental stewardship, excellent municipal services and quality of life.

A strategic plan is a valuable tool used by city leaders to identify goals and prioritize resources.

The City Council and city staff rely on the visions presented within the plan to guide development and design programs to ensure Geneva remains a vibrant and prosperous community, the release stated.
