"Her play from this year to last year is night-and-day," Ston said. ""She is stepping up immensely for us and is leading our team very well so far this year."
That was the case again Tuesday. Calcagno's 16 kills rallied St. Francis past Montini 16-25, 25-18, 25-16 in Wheaton.
Calcago's play, seemingly, has grown more ripe with experience.
"I think I've just, in the past two years maybe, seen the game from a different set of eyes," Calcagno said. "I've always been the taller girl, more advanced for my age group; but I've seen a lot more talent coming from other teams that I can compete with. That's helped me a lot in my improvement."
