Registration is now open for Batavia Public School District 101's preschool lottery and kindergarten preview night for the 2020-2021 school year.

BATAVIA – Registration is open for the 2020-21 Batavia Public School District 101's preschool Lottery and kindergarten preview.

Families with children who will be turning 3 and 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2020 and who live within the school district boundaries are eligible to participate in the lottery system for BPS 101 preschool at the Eariy Childhood Center for the 2020-2021 school year.

According to a news release from the school district, the lottery-based system replaces the fee-based system and eliminates the monthly fee for community students. Families are still responsible for the district’s standard registration fee.

To register for the 2020-21 lottery, parents need to complete the Letter of Intent (en espaņol) and return it to the BPS101 preschool at the Early Childhood Center, located in Alice Gustafson Elementary School, by 3 p.m. on Jan. 24, 2020.

The BPS101 preschool offers a language-rich, purposefully designed learning environment that’s based in exploration and discovery. The academic and social-emotional curriculum is aligned with the district’s K-5 curriculum and Illinois Early Learning and Development Standards.

BPS101 Preschool teachers hold both general education and special education teaching certificates and have earned the English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement. Students must be potty-trained by the first day of class.

To learn more about the program and the lottery, parents are encouraged to attend the BPS101 Preschool Open House from 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 22, 2020 at the Early Childhood Center, 905 Carlisle Road, Batavia.

Families with children who will turn 5 by Sept. 1, 2020 are invited to attend a kindergarten preview session on Feb. 14, 2020. The kindergarten preview is a one-hour session during which prospective kindergartners participate in activities as a small group. During this time, the child’s fine motor, cognitive, speech and language skills are observed by BPS101 teachers, the news release states.

The session provides a positive kindergarten experience to incoming students and offers parents an opportunity to meet school staff members and ask questions. It is also the start of the BPS101 school enrollment process.
