Librarian Lexy Jones holds one of the Discovery Skills Kits that can be checked out of the library for four weeks.

Intended to help children practice social, emotional, physical, intellectual and cognitive life skills in a fun and playful way, Discovery Skills Kits contain themed books, toys, manipulatives and games to provide reinforcement for visual and tactile learners of varying abilities.

Topics include conversation, handling money, telling time, reading comprehension, critical thinking, sharing, making friends - and much more! These kits can be checked out of the library for four weeks.

New library update

Construction continues on the new Geneva Public Library at 227 S. Seventh St. After consulting with their building team, library officials hope that construction will be completed after the beginning of the year. The opening day will be determined at a later date.

Site work is underway, including sidewalks and the parking lot. Crews are also doing extensive work on the interior of the building.

The Librarian Recommends

Librarian Ellen Anderson recommends “Grimoire Noir” by Vera Greentea and illustrated by Yana Bogatch. “This spellbinding graphic novel intertwines magic, ghosts and a mystery that consumes an entire town when a little girl goes missing. It is up to her brother to uncover the truth. This gripping tale includes gorgeous illustrations and is perfect for young adults and adults,” she said.

Paula Krapf is public relations and marketing manager for Geneva Public Library. The “Beyond the Bookshelves” column runs the third Thursday of each month. Feedback can be sent to editorial@kcchronicle.com.
