ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles Public Library has announced that Outreach Services Librarian David Kelsey is the 2019 recipient of the John Philip Excellence in Outreach Award.
The award, presented by the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services, is given to recognize outstanding contributions and prominent leadership by an individual in Bookmobile and Outreach Services, according to a news release from the St. Charles Public Library.
The Outreach Services department has been delivering library materials to residents of the St. Charles Public Library District for more than 40 years. Under Kelsey’s leadership, the Outreach Services department has taken traditional library services and expanded services to include hospitals, a local homeless shelter and senior assisted living and retirement facilities, the release stated.
He also has established new community book exchanges, increased services to patrons with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and launched programming at facilities, according to the release.
The John Philip Excellence in Outreach Award was presented to Kelsey on Oct. 24 during the 2019 Association of Bookmobile & Outreach Services conference in Omaha, Nebraska.
