ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – An alleged heroin dealer faces criminal charges in the 2018 overdose death of a 30-year-old West Dundee woman, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office announced in a news release.
Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon charged Gehovani R. Gomez, 22, of the 800 block of Bode Road, Elgin with the offense of drug-induced homicide of Crystal Villegas, a Class X felony.
If convicted, Gomez faces a sentence of 6 to 30 years in prison.
Prosecutors allege that on Sept. 6, 2018, Villegas ingested heroin that she purchased from Gomez, overdosed and died, the release stated.
The Kane County Coroner's Office determined the cause of Villegas' death to be heroin and fentanyl intoxication.
Kane County Associate Judge Julia Yetter signed a warrant for Gomez's arrest and set his bond at $500,000. He would have to post $50,000 or 10% as bail in order to be released.
His initial court appearance is to be determined.
Gomez remains in custody in the Cook County jail in an unrelated case.
