ST. CHARLES – A St. Charles native has authored a series of books for young children to help them understand differences between families.
Colleen LeMaire, who now lives in Oswego, began the "I Have" series in 2014 after her young stepdaughter was struggling to understand her blended family. According to a news release, the series breaks down "non-traditional family dynamics into kid-friendly language, making it easier for them to understand."
The first three books in the series, "I Have Two Homes," "I Have a Stepmom," and "I Have a Stepdad" take divorce and blended family living and explain it in an age-appropriate way, the release stated.
In 2019, the fourth and fifth books were published. "I Have Two Moms" and "I Have Two Dads" portray families with same-sex parents. LeMaire's next books in the series are "I Have a Sibling with Special Needs," and "I Have a Guardian Angel" (which is for kids whose parent has died).
The series is geared toward children ages 2-10.
The books are available on amazon.com and LeMaire's website, www.theihaveseries.com.
