ELBURN – Guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque will perform a concert at 3 p.m. Feb. 23, presented by Da Capo Music Studio in Elburn.
Haque was voted Best World Guitarist by Guitar Player Magazine in 2009, and his acclaimed 2009 release, "Flat Planet," was twice No. 1 on the World Jazz Radio charts, a news release stated.
The afternoon concert will feature Haque’s original transcriptions of works by Mompou, Saint-Saens and Casseus, as well as Ponce's "Sonata III."
Steeped in classical and jazz traditions, his unique command of the guitar and different musical styles inspires his musical ventures with tradition and fearless innovation, according to the release.
Haque recently performed both the Aranjuez and Villa-Lobos guitar concertos with the Chicago Philharmonic.
Since 1988, Haque has been professor of jazz and classical guitar at Northern Illinois University. He documents his unique and often unorthodox teaching methods in a series of interactive video courses through TrueFire.
Da Capo Music Studio is at 870 N. Main St. in the Jewel plaza. The concert is free, but there is a recommended donation of $20. For more information, contact 630-777-2955, firstname.lastname@example.org or dcmusicstudio.com.
