MAPLE PARK – The Kaneland High School Theatre Department will present its 2020 spring musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” in April, according to a news release from the school district.
The musical is based on Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel set in medieval Paris, and involves a beautiful girl, an unlikely hero and a cruel villain. Their story of love and loss plays out against a backdrop of revolution and social unrest, the release stated.
“This version of Hunchback takes the best parts of the book and movie and combines it to tell a sad, yet honest, story on stage. The show is darker than most Disney shows but also has moments of joy and happiness, which makes the show so dynamic and interesting,” said junior Johnna Rohlman, who plays the role of Esmeralda.
Performances are at 7 p.m. April 17 and 18 and 2 p.m. April 19. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and children. Kaneland High School students with their school ID get in for free.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or at https://app.arts-people.com/index.php?ticketing=khstd.
Kaneland High School is located at 47W326 Keslinger Road in Maple Park.
The show is recommended for older elementary school-aged children and up.
