GENEVA – To call The Catholic Corner a store would be missing the point. Of course, there are items to buy – hand-crafted rosaries and crosses; Baptism mementos and First Communion gifts; books about the saints; devotionals and guides for seekers, both adults and children, along their spiritual journey; and religious medals and other jewelry, just to name a few.
But when Judy Gay took ownership of the original Pax Vobiscum ("peace be with you") Catholic Books and Gifts in the Berry House on Third Street in Geneva, she realized she needed a larger building for the space she wanted to create.
“I wanted to engage the community,” Gay explained.
The house at 4 S. Sixth St. in Geneva was a perfect fit. Filled with nooks for small sitting areas, along with natural light streaming through the windows, The Catholic Corner offers a space where someone can wander, explore, talk with others, think about their faith or a question in their lives, or just be.
