During our state’s stay-at-home order, the Batavia Public Library will remain closed to the public. However, while our physical building is closed, library staff will be working remotely and will answer questions about your account and how to use our Digital Library, provide book recommendations and more.
Please email or text us and a library staff member will respond Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please submit your questions via email at email@example.com, or text 66746; enter askbpl; then type your question.
How long will the library be closed?
The library is closed and all events are canceled until further notice. All programs and meeting room reservations have been canceled through May 3. This date may be extended as we continue to evaluate the situation.
Can I return my library materials through the book drops?
For the safety of our community and staff, we ask that you do not return your library materials through the book drops. Please keep library materials at home until after the building reopens. Due dates have been extended through May 1 and no late fees will be applied during the shutdown.
What is happening with my holds?
All holds (except for downloadable materials) have been suspended. This means you will not lose your place in the holds queue. Any materials that are currently on the holds shelf in the library will still be waiting for you when we reopen.
Can I place holds on items now?
You can place holds on items through the library catalog. Due to library closures throughout the state, you may not receive your item for several weeks.
Using the Library Remotely
Patrons with smartphones can access the library on-the-go with our mobile app on iOS and Android. The mobile app makes it easy to search our catalog and access your account from your smartphone or tablet at any time. Look for “SWAN Libraries App” in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
Can I check out eBooks and other eMedia?
You can use your Batavia Public Library card number and PIN to access free eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, movies, and TV shows. Visit our webpage BataviaPublicLibrary.org/ebooks-emedia for more information.
During the Library closure: Hoopla checkouts are increased to 10 items per month per patron. Kanopy: selected streaming video checkouts are unlimited through April 12. eMediaLibrary: checkouts are increased to 10 items per patron at a time. Restrictions on access to eMedia have been removed (except for accounts with fines of $50+).
