Rebecca Groshek and her fellow members in the group Fox Valley Community Response know how the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak has upended everyone's life.
The all-volunteer group wants to help their fellow Fox Valley residents in any way they can. The effort grew out of her involvement with the Nextdoor app in her St. Charles neighborhood.
"We used this platform to reach out to each other," Groshek said. "I had a ton of responses. People are so giving. They were asking what they could do."
The group's members are ready to help in any way they can, from grocery and food delivery to assisting with pets to making medical runs. The group of about 20 volunteers includes members of the medical community.
"We are ready in case the need is there," Groshek said. "There are people willing to help with resumes for those that are being displaced and laid off to help them get new jobs. There are people that are willing to walk pets."
The group's coverage area includes Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles and into Aurora. Over the years, Groshek has volunteered her time with many community organizations, including the nonprofit group Random Acts Matter and Lazarus House homeless shelter.
"I enjoy lending a hand," Groshek said. "This is really about supporting the community. It really is about being in it together. I think there's a lot of people that just want to be part of the solution. We just want people to know that they are not alone."
People who are need of help can call Fox Valley Community Response at 331-222-9150 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Those who want to volunteer can email Groshek at email@example.com.
