ST. CHARLES – Kane Repertory Theatre of St. Charles will involve viewers in its next project, The New Play Lab, a weekly virtual program with professional playwrights from across the country. It kicks off at 7:30 p.m. May 27 on YouTube Live.

The Lab offers a virtual rehearsal room to the playwrights, connecting them with actors from the KRT ensemble and beyond, a news release stated. Audiences get a look at the development of the works and can join the post-read discussions.

The first four selections touch on such issues as race relations, escapism through technology, PC culture, and religious awakening.

Streaming at 7:30 p.m. will be "Sputnik in Suburbia" by Adam Kraar, May 27; "Midwest Porn" by Quincy Long, June 3; "Ghost Stories" by Lia Romeo, June 10; and "Invasions and Penetrations" by Mike Solomonson, June 17.

The livestreams are free, but donations are welcomed at artful.ly/kane-repertory-theatre/store/donate or through a Venmo account @KaneRep. Sponsors get a shout-out. Visit facebook.com/KaneRepertoryTheatre or kanerepertorytheatre.com.

"To help support this work and the artists involved, consider a donation of $20, or any amount that makes sense to you," the release stated.
