Dating app leads to attempted extortion

Would-be victim did not fall for $1,500 demand after explicit photo exchange

ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP – A resident of the 38W700 block of Evanswood Lane, St. Charles Township, reported May 14 that he was being harassed through a dating app called Hinge, according to police reports.

The resident told deputies that a woman “matched” with him on this dating app, and their conversation moved to another app called Whatsapp, reports stated.

He received a nude photograph of her and he sent one back of himself to her, the report stated.

Then he received text messages demanding $1,500 in cash or else she would send his nude photograph to his friends on social media, the report stated.

He told her that he called police and blocked her on all the applications, the report stated.

Deputies attempted to call the phone number that was messaging him, but a voicemail stated it was no longer in service, the report stated.
