Beyond the Bookshelves: Geneva Public Library offers drive-thru and book drop services

Ready to return your library books? Or pick up some new novels? Our book drop and drive-thru pick-up service by appointment are now available at the new library at 227 S. Seventh St.

Here’s how it works:

The book drop is available anytime for returns. Simply drive up and place your books in the drop box from the convenience of your car – and it works for walk-ups, too! We hold books for seven days before they can be checked out again, so it may take a few days for your account to show that the books have been returned. There’s no need to worry: we’ve waived all fines.

To check out books, place your holds through our online catalog at gpld.org. We will call you when your books are ready for pick-up at the library. We ask for your patience as our staff is working really hard to process all of the holds from the past three months.

Have you joined the Summer Reading Challenge? Sign up for the challenge and earn badges for reading, listening, watching, and using library resources. Register at gpld.readsquared.com.

New library update: We are working on plans for limited in-building service, and will post updates at gpld.org as we have more information. Meanwhile, we have been getting the building ready, and playground construction at Sixth and Franklin streets has begun.

Although our physical building is closed to comply with Gov. Pritzker’s Stay at Home order, we’re here to help. Our staff can serve you via email, geneva.library@gpld.org, and phone at 630-232-0780.

Check our calendar at gpld.org for virtual events that include book clubs, teen games, storytimes, tech talks, and more.

The Librarian Recommends: Library Associate Madi Jefferies recommends “The Hate U Give,” by Angie Thomas. “This phenomenal book will expand your perspective, and provides a scope into police brutality, white privilege, and the power of a single voice,” she says.

Paula Krapf is public relations and marketing manager for Geneva Public Library. The “Beyond the Bookshelves” column runs the third Thursday of each month. Feedback can be sent to editorial@kcchronicle.com.
