ST. CHARLES – A Chicago man was killed Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle hit a sport utility vehicle head-on in St. Charles.

Jorge Perez, 24, of Chicago, was pronounced dead after being transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva following the crash. At 4:15 p.m. Sunday, units from the St. Charles police and fire departments responded to the 2500 block of North 5th Avenue (Route 25) for a report of a vehicle crash involving injuries.

Perez was unresponsive when they arrived at the scene and officers and paramedics began resuscitation efforts. A preliminary investigation has shown that Perez was driving a Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle northbound on North 5th Avenue between Country Club Road and Red Gate Road.

Perez drove the motorcycle into the southbound lanes in an attempt to pass two other northbound vehicles, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department. Perez then struck a south bound green Ford Escape head-on, the released stated.

Witnesses indicate that Perez was traveling in a large group of motorcycles, according to the release. Perez reportedly stopped to block traffic in the intersection of North 5th Avenue and Country Club Road so that the other motorcycles could go through the intersection together, the release stated.

In attempt to catch up to the group, Perez attempted to pass the two vehicles and struck the southbound Ford Escape, according to the release. The driver the of the Ford Escape was treated by paramedics and released on scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
