After several months of being closed due to the COVID-19 shutdown, the Batavia Public Library is again making books, DVDs, audiobooks, CDs, and other items that are in the catalog available to its cardholders through curbside pickup of holds.
Library cardholders can reserve up to 10 items per week of desired materials through the online catalog or by calling the library at 630-879-1393. Once your items are available for pickup, a staff member will call you to schedule a pickup day and time.
At your scheduled pickup time, please park in the designated pickup area by the library’s main entrance and call 630-879-4772. Be sure to have your library card number ready. Library staff will ask you to pull up to the table at the main entrance and will set your bagged materials on a table for you to pick up, avoiding any direct contact. The bag is yours to keep.
Currently, this curbside pickup service is limited to items owned by the Batavia Public Library.
Patrons can also return their checked-out books and other materials during curbside drop off. Returned items will be quarantined before a staff member processes them. Due to this waiting period, a book may not immediately register as returned on a patron’s account. Don’t worry; at this time, due dates are extended until July 13 for all materials.
Curbside pickup and drop off are available Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Now that you can once again check out reading material, are you wondering what to read next? Library staff can prepare a custom list of reading suggestions based on what you like. Browse to the BOOKS page on the library’s website at BataviaPublicLibrary.org and find the “Your Next Read” button. Once you’ve submitted the online form, a librarian will get to work creating your custom list.
The library building may be closed to the public, but the staff has planned lots of events for you and your family this summer. Be sure to check out our online calendar. Choose from the many classes and activities for all ages: crafts, genealogy, stories, musical performances, games, book discussions, STEAM challenges, culinary programs, Harry Potter Trivia, job search strategies, DIY toys, and more! And although the building is not open, we hope that you have registered for the Summer Reading Club and have begun working toward earning your first reward. If not, there’s still time to get registered, check our website at BataviaPublicLibrary.org.
Patricia Leonard is the promotional services manager for the Batavia Public Library. The “@ Your Library” column runs the fourth Thursday of each month.
