Cause of garage fire still under investigation

GENEVA – No one was injured after a detached garage was damaged by a fire June 25 at 201 S. First St./Route 31– on Geneva’s near west side, officials announced in a news release.

The Geneva firefighters were dispatched at 4:01 p.m. after passing cyclists noticed smoke coming from the detached garage.

The first unit arriving on the scene found moderate smoke showing from the rear of the garage. Firefighters extinguished the fire in 15 minutes, the release stated.

No cars were parked inside the garage. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the release stated.

The garage sustained both interior and exterior fire damage, which is estimated to be $15,000.

Firefighters from St. Charles, Batavia and Elburn assisted Geneva at the scene while the West Chicago Fire Department filled in Geneva Fire Station No. 1 during the incident.
