GENEVA – Kane County Coroner Rob Russell reported an additional five deaths from COVID-19 as of 1 p.m. Monday, representing a 2% increase in the number of deaths in one week, from June 22 to June 29.

The five additional deaths boosts to 244 the number of confirmed coronavirus deaths in Kane County, according to the coroner’s news release.

For clarification, some of those who died did not live in Kane County, but died in Kane County Hospitals. By law, that makes them Kane County deaths.

The Kane Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health are researching where these individuals contracted the disease and are reporting them as such. This would be one reason the difference in numbers, the release stated.

All of these reported deaths tested positive for the coronavirus; only cases that tested positive were included.

The oldest to die was a woman, age 88 in South Elgin on June 29; the youngest were a man and a woman, both 76, in Aurora and Elgin on June 26.

In South Elgin, a man age 79 died on June 29 and a woman age 87 died June 22 in Elgin.
