BATAVIA – Batavia City Administrator Laura Newman at the City Council meeting July 6 gave a brief update on the latest information on the proposed One Washington Place complex in downtown Batavia.
The city’s Historic Preservation Commission unanimously approved the certificate of appropriateness for the project. The Batavia Planning Commission voted to recommend approval of a design review at its meeting July 1.
The city plans to present the redevelopment agreement to the council to consider sometime in July or early August.
In June, the Committee of the Whole directed the city to begin the process of dissolving the current Tax Increment Financing district and establishing a new one to accommodate the amended design for the proposed $40 million project.
City Council on June 1 approved a resolution that authorizes a contract with WGI to provide parking consultant review services.
Shodeen President Dave Patzelt presented proposed modifications to One Washington Place plans at the Committee of the Whole meeting in April. Proposed modifications to the 2018 plan included the loss of four residential units, bringing the total to 186. Other modifications included a loss of 645 square feet of retail space on River Street due to bringing a stairwell to a second-floor office space, and an increase of 9,300 square feet on Wilson Street for a net add of 8,455 square feet.
On the second floor facing River Street, 2,370 square feet was added for offices, but 32 parking spaces were lost for the space.
In a recorded address to the city last week, Mayor Jeff Schielke said the city is considering hosting a small fireworks display possibly on Sept. 6. During his mayor report July 6, Schielke reiterated the possibility. The July 4 fireworks display, which would have been the city’s 70th annual show, was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
