KANE COUNTY – Illinois public health officials on Sunday reported 49 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and no new deaths.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in Kane County stands at 293. The total number of cases in the county is now 8,714 an increase of 49 since Saturday.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen five days of positivity increases and two days of hospital admission increases. The region's positivity rate remained flat at 4.3%. Currently 34% of medical/surgical beds are available and 46% of ICU beds.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. The World Health Organization has said that in countries that have conducted extensive testing for COVID-19, the positivity rate should remain at 5% or lower for at least 14 days.

Officials report a total of 171,424 cases statewide, including 7,398 deaths and 192 probable deaths. The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 19 –July 25 is 3.7%.
